
A native of North Carolina,
Deborah Welch Lawrence received her PhD from the University of Wyoming in
American Indian history in 1985. She married Dr. Peter Lawrence, professor of
Veterinary Medicine. For a list of her publications and presentations, please

works are donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Her current research includes a study on societal reaction to widows throughout
American history tentatively entitled: `Hold Onto Me: Case Studies in
Widowhood from Colonial Times to Present. She is also preparing a study of
American Indian diets prior to contact and the resulting health benefits that
can be adopted to modern lifestyles. Finally, she is drawing together a group of
contributors to prepare a text on teaching public history suitable for
undergraduate classroom use.
