Museum
of the Confederacy Internship
The Eleanor S. Brockenbrough Library at the Museum of the Confederacy is home to a collection of both Confederate and Federal covers, what are known today as envelopes. Many of these covers boast patriotic pictures on the front, which I used in my display. The first cover is from a set of eleven, entitled “One of the Rebels.” These engravings utilize historical persons and allegorical figures. The second is a Federal cover which satirizes Confederate President Jefferson Davis. The third and fourth are a comparison of a Federal cover and Confederate cover which use basically the same imagery, as many covers did.
