Lonnie is a member of Comparative and International Education Society, NASPA, American Association Higher Education, Association for Conflict Resolution, The Washington DC Film Society, Jujitsu America, and The United States Small Circle Jujitsu Association. Lonnie has done presentations related to diversity and interculturalism competencies, civic participation and democracy.

Lonnie has primary interests in politics both international and national, film, video and photography, the martial arts, mountain biking, and the family. Lonnie is married to Dr. Marian Hahesy-Calhoun, a Family Practice Physician, and has three children - Alana Cristina, Azikiwe, and Clare Victoria.
