Rick is a member of the Southern Association for College Student Affairs (SACSA) and the Association for Student Judicial Affairs (ASJA), in which he serves as a Virginia state representative and on the publications board as a reviewer for the ASJA Journal of Student Conduct Administration. He teaches human development, research methods, and psychological assessment as an adjunct instructor for the Department of Education and Human Services. Personal interests include hiking and backpacking, reading, history, and martial arts.
