The University of Salzburg

Text Box: Longwood University, in conjunction with New England Universities, offers students the opportunity to participate in the intellectual life of a great university situated in a major European cultural center.  Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart and the site of the renowned Salzburg festival, is a symbol  of the great music of Europe. With its imposing cathedrals and castles and  its magnificent Alpine scenery, Salzburg fills the ears and the minds of all who study there.
 
 
 
The program is open to qualified juniors and seniors in all major fields. To be admitted to the program students must normally fulfill the following basic requirements:
1. A  minimum of two years of German with a B average or better.
2. Good Scholastic Standing (minimum 2.5 GPA)

Text Box: The Application for the program  can be downloaded from: www.umaine.edu/mlandc/salzburg.html. In addition to using the online Salzburg application, students must apply to the Longwood study abroad program. Forms are available in the office of International Affairs.  
 
*The deadline for the academic year is March 1 (October 1 for spring semester only).

Like their Austrian counterparts, program participants are housed in dormitories or rent private rooms in or near Salzburg. Austrian standards of cleanliness are high.  There is a good selection of comfortable rooms listed on-line with the Austrian Student Union.  The Resident Director also has a list of dormitories and hotels.  Students are advised to contact the Resident Director immediately after they are accepted into the program.  
 
 
 
Students accepted into the Salzburg Program will receive an International Affairs scholarship in the amount of $1000. Modern language majors are eligible for additional scholarships. Students on financial aid at Longwood may use that aid to finance this program.

Text Box: Students accepted as “regular students” are eligible for the Austrian student health policy ($30 per month) which covers most medical, dental treatment and medication costs.  The application for insurance will be filed in Salzburg.  It is also advisable for students to carry a comprehensive U.S. or Canadian health insurance, as well as required ISIC card.
