Text Box:  The University of Geneva is located in Geneva, Switzerland, home to numerous international organizations, including the United Nations and Red Cross.  One of the leading universities in Europe, the University of Geneva is a “globalized” university with a very diverse student population, and is an excellent study abroad destination for motivated students, particularly history, political science, economics, and language majors.

Text Box: Eligible students must apply to the Longwood  study abroad program using forms available in the Office of International Affairs (Ruffner 146). The deadline for Fall Semester is March 1 and for spring semester, 
October 1.
 
 

Text Box: The program is open to students of all majors, although most suited to history, political science, economics, and language majors.  To be admitted to the program students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA or better, and have completed French 201, or an equivalent (in the case of language majors, students must have completed French 202).

Text Box: Students pay regular Longwood tuition and fees, and do not pay any fees to Geneva other than for room and board. Longwood students pay a $250 study abroad administrative fee upon acceptance. Participation in this program will waive the Longwood goal nine requirement.  Scholarships are available.

Text Box: Academic Programs

Text Box: Geneva offers a program specifically for international students of all majors called the “International Studies Program.” The one-semester program offers courses in English on issues relating to Geneva's history and international role, including international law and international organizations, and the intellectual and cultural history of Geneva. In addition to lectures and seminars, the curriculum entails visits to the most important international organizations based in Geneva. Students in this program also take a French course.
 
For language majors, the University of Geneva offers courses in grammar, linguistics, phonetics, translation and interpretation in French, German, Spanish, and other languages.  Students may also choose courses in French culture or literature.
