Study Abroad in Costa Rica 2010

March 6-14, 2010

*Informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 17, at 2 p.m. in the Ruffner Hall lounge outside the Office of International Affairs (Ruffner 146). Anyone who cannot attend this meeting can see Dr. Frank personally. Students will be enrolled in the class by the Office of International Affairs.*

(one section is offered for Honors students, one session is offered regularly)

This course satisfies the General Education goals listed above.  Participation in this program waives General Education Goal 9.

Communications 395 is a Special Topics class in the form of a Hybrid Course.  Students will be required to participate in a Blackboard-directed online class prior to going on the trip to Costa Rica.  The course/trip will be led by Dr. Deborah McWee, Assistant Director, Cormier Honors College (honors section) and Dr. Robert Frank, Director of International Affairs (regular section).

Trip Details:

  • Depart Saturday, March 6, from Dulles International Airport
  • Return Sunday, March 14, from San Jose, Costa Rica 

Trip Requirements:

  • College Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5

Highlights include:

  • Rain-forest trips
  • Waterfalls
  • Museums
  • Volcano excursion
  • Day at the zoo
  • Visits to local education institutions

The tentative cost of the program is $2,200.00.  This price will cover airfare, 8 nights in a resort hotel (double occupancy), breakfasts & dinners, and all excursions.
Tuition is not included in the above cost.   

Tuition Rates for Summer 2010

In-State: $190.30 per credit hour
Out of State: $477.40 per credit hour
