The visa you need as a student or intern UNDER 6 months is an “F” business visa:
Business Visa (F Visa) is issued to an alien who is invited to China for a visit, an investigation, a lecture, to do business, scientific-technological and culture exchanges, short-term advanced studies or internship for a period of no more than six months.
Please
submit the following
documents for
your application: 4.First time applicants whose former nationality was Chinese, shall write down his Chinese name in the application form and submit his original Chinese passport or the photocopy of the information page of the passport. Applicant who was formerly Chinese and has acquired a new US passport, if there is a Chinese visa in the old passport, shall submit his old US passport or the photocopy of the Chinese visa.
5.Visa Notifications Form from
an authorized Chinese Unit, or invitation letters from the host company (AHUT),
meeting or exhibition organizers in China, or an introduction letter from applicant's
US company (Longwood letter), etc.

Additional Information
Mail Back Service Applicants who come to the Visa Office personally for application submission, may ask the Visa Office to mail his passport /document back, should they provide self-addressed pre-paid return envelopes.
Requirement for Return Envelope l A self-addressed pre-paid return envelope with sufficient postage must be included. l The following return envelopes with tracking number/bar code are acceptable: Fedex, Express Mail, etc. l Meter stamped envelopes, and certified or registered return mails are not acceptable. l The applicant shall fill in his/her name and address as the SENDER on the return envelop instead of the Chinese Embassy or Consulate.
Processing Time The processing time is 5-7 business days. No rush service is available.
Payments l In addition to the application fee, a $5 handling fee per envelope shall be charged. l Please pay all fees incurred in mail applications (including walk-in mail-back applications) only by Money Order, Cashier's Check, or Company Check. l Personal checks, cash or credit card are not acceptable. l Please make the check or money order payable to Chinese Embassy. l All payments may be written in one check or money order.
Once you are at the Visa Office: Step1 Pick up a number before you sit down and wait until your number called. Step2 When your number called, you can approach the first available window, either window1 or window2 to present application or make inquires.
Inquiry on the Status of Mail Application Do not make any inquiry regarding the status of your application within 15 days after the date of submission. In case of emergency, you may contact us by fax. We'll answer you as soon as possible.
A reviewing fee of $20 shall be charged if you withdraw your application while it is under processing.
Additional information The Visa Office is not responsible for the loss or damage or any mishandling of your mail by the post office, or other delivery services, nor does any delay of the processing of an application due to lack of supporting documents or other unmeet reasons.
