Recycling

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

The process of recycling generates innumerable
environmental, financial, and social benefits.
Recycling reduces our reliance on landfills, aids our
health, protects the environment, and conserves
our natural resources. Using recycled materials in
place of raw materials when manufacturing new
products prevents pollution as well.

Recycling is very simple, so do your part and join
the millions of people across the globe who help
create a better environment for all mankind and
wildlife, too.

1 of 2 ways:

  • Flattening boxes and leaving the cardboard
    next to the trashcan
  • Dropping off cardboard at the loading dock
    of Dorrill Dining Hall

Where can I recycle newspapers
and magazines?

Newspapers and magazines can be recycled by
depositing the items in the blue newspaper/
magazine recycling bins located in the following
buildings:

Old computers, printers, phones, rechargeable
batteries, and other electronics should NOT be thrown
out in the trash as they are full of toxic metals that
can harm our water and air quality. Longwood
University participates in the annual E-Recycling Day
held in Farmville every April. So hold onto your old
electronics until you can safely recycle them.

Take an active role in conserving our environment,
and start recycling today!

Where can I recycle Electronics?

Instead of having an electronics recycling day, they
will be collecting electronics year round; this option
seemed more cost effective for the County.  There is
a dumpster at STEPS for everyone to utilize
regardless of where you live.  If you are a Prince
Edward County resident, you can drop off your
electronics in the appropriate dumpster at one of the
following Prince Edward County Solid Waste
Convenience Centers:

  • Rice
  • Green Bay
  • Worsham
  • Prospect
  • Darlington Heights
  • Virso
  • Landfill Site
