Laptop Initiative
Longwood has long advocated that its students have the technology skills needed in the job market. Student teachers are required to take a two credit class on using technology in the K-12 classroom. Computer usage is an integrated component in the required one credit Longwood Seminar and the 33 credit General Education program.
Technology is also a critical component of the curriculum in the School of Business and Economics. Longwood recognizes that the personal computer today is a critical tool in education. We have, therefore, designed a computer purchasing program to assist the students in procuring a computer that will serve as a communication tool and be compatible with the Longwood network.
Using their personal laptop computers, students will complete assignments using word processing software, spreadsheets, databases, electronic mail, and will also be able to browse the World-Wide Web 24 hours a day from their dorm rooms, the library, the student union, the dining hall, classrooms, and from off campus locations.
