Live Mail

Students use Live Mail to manage their Longwood email. Live Mail is a full-service email system from Microsoft.

Setting Up Your Live Mail Account

  1. Go to and choose Sign In. The email address format is the first and last name (separated by a dot), e.g., In the event of duplicates, numbers are assigned at the end of the name, e.g.,
  2. Upon logging on, you will be prompted to set up a new password, select a security question and secret answer to be used in the event of a forgotten password, register an alternate email address, enter some personal demographic information, and accept the terms of use agreement.
  3. You are in! The interface is very similar to that of Outlook and is very easy to navigate. If you have questions regarding the use of the system, feel free to contact your RTA.

Password Guidelines for Live Mail

  • The password is case-sensitive.
  • The password can contain uppercase letters and lowercase letters.
  • The password can contain numbers.
  • The password can contain the following ASCII text characters:
    ' ~ ! @ # $ % ^ * ( ) _ + - = { } | [ ] \ : " ; ' > ? , . /
  • The minimum password length is eight characters.
  • The maximum password length is 16 characters.
  • Password restrictions
  • The password can't contain any of the following items:
    • Spaces
    • Non-English characters
    • The character &
    • The character <
    • The account name part of the e-mail address. For example, if the e-mail address is, the password can't contain user. This restriction isn't case-sensitive. Therefore, USER or User can't be used in the password for

Setting up a Forward in Live Mail

  1. Click on Options which is found by clicking on the gear symbol.
  2. In the search box type "forward."
  3. Click "Forwarding."
  4. Select the "Start forwarding" button and type in the email address to forward the Live account to.
  5. Click Save.
