Who is required to have a laptop?
All entering Longwood University Freshman and transfer students are required to have a laptop.
What kind of laptop should I bring?
You may bring whatever brand laptop you like. It is important that students bring all documentation and software that comes with their laptop when they come to campus.
Below is a listing of minimum specification recommendations for Longwood student laptops. If you have questions regarding these recommendations please contact User Support Services at (434) 395-4357. We recommend that you contact your academic department for departmental requirements and/or recommendations.
Processor: Dual Core Processor
Memory: 4GB DDR3 RAM Minimum
Hard Drive: 250GB Hard Disk Drive or 64 GB Solid State Drive (With the Solid State drive, much of the space will be taken up by the Operating System so be sure to purchase external storage)
Operating System: Running Windows 7 or later, MacOS 10.10 or later, or the latest stable release of a Linux Distribution
Internet Connectivity: Wired Ethernet Port - or appropriate adapter to connect to wired port
External storage device(s): Large capacity flash drives or external hard drive
Optical Drive: A DVD-RW drive - internal or external - is recommended but not required. These may be necessary to watch DVD’s on your notebook or to install software from a disk.
What kind of support will I have for my laptop on campus?
The first contact for students in need of technical support is the Residence Technology Associate Program (RTA).
