Preventing Bullying and Violence in Schools |
|
The Department of Health, Recreation and Kinesiology at Longwood University, Farmville, Virginia is requesting your assistance regarding advertisement of the course HLTH 595: Preventing Bullying and Violence in Schools, June 23-27, 2008. As you are well aware the aftermath of previous bullying and violent acts continues to affect Virginians today. Many actions found to decrease the likelihood of bullying and violence in our schools can be taken. There are effective, evidenced-based curricula that have changed attitudes and violent behaviors. In an attempt to provide assistance to public and private schools, Longwood University is offering the first of what is expected to be annual summer courses addressing this topic. This is a graduate course that is designed for K-12 classroom teachers, nurses, counselors, building, and district administrators to prevent bullying behavior and violence in the school setting (please see course flyer in the link below). Would you please assist us in two ways? First, we are looking for a local school district to host this course. Requirements to host include providing a training location and equipment for the one week course and assistance in identification of seven or more participants for the training. It is our desire to bring the course to you in order to conserve energy and participation expenses. If a location is not identified by May 30, 2008, the course will be scheduled on Longwood University’s campus. Secondly, would you please distribute the attached flyers with an appropriate communication to you building administrators so that this course will be advertised immediately to all district staff? If you have questions regarding the information that is provided or would like to commit to host this site in your district call (434) 353-5502 or email me at: gapinskipa@Longwood.edu. Thank you again for support.
