The CDC National STD Hotline provides toll-free information on sexually transmitted diseases to the general public.  Information Specialists are trained to convey accurate, basic information and referrals for free of low clinics nationwide.  Free educational literature about a wide variety of sexually transmitted diseases and prevention methods is also available.

In addition to offering clinic referrals and written materials, Information Specialists answer questions about transmission, prevention, treatment and follow-up concerning STDs, including gonorrhea, chlamydia, HPV/genital warts, herpes and others.  The CDC National STD Hotline answers over 200,00 calls from across the United States each year.

The Virginia HIV/STD and Viral Hepatitis Hotline provides statewide toll-free lines staffed by trained counselors to answer questions and provide crisis intervention, referrals, and written educational materials regarding Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), Viral Hepatitis, and HIV and AIDS.

HIV/STD Literature Requests

The Hotline mails out information pamphlets, brochures, and posters to groups, individuals, and organizations.  If you are interested in receiving some of these free brochures or posters fill out the HIV/STD Literature Request Form found in the print edition of the Quarterly Surveillance Report or call the Virginia HIV/STD/Viral Hepatitis Hotline at the number listed below.  In addition, an on-line version of this form is available in Adobe .pdf format.  Click on the HIV/STD Literature request form, print it out and mail or fax it to the address provided on the form.

National Herpes Hotline

The National Herpes Hotline is operated by ASHA as part of the Herpes Resource Center. The hotline, which currently answers more than 30,000 calls a year, provides free counseling on herpes and offers referrals. The hotline is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Eastern time, Monday through Friday. ASHA coordinates over 90 local support groups, called HELP groups, in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Australia.

TEEN Line is not a crisis or "hot" line. The line is a service of the Iowa Department of Public Health and answered 24 hours a day through a contract with Iowa State University Extension.
