Alzheimer Association: Memory Walk
The
Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk is the nation's largest event to
raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research.
Since 1989, Memory Walk has raised more than $225 million. Held
annually in hundreds of communities across the country, this inspiring
event calls on volunteers of all ages to become champions in the fight
against Alzheimer's. Visit

American Cancer Society: Relay for Life
Relay for Life became the signature event for the American Cancer
Society in 1992. It is more than a fundraiser; it is a celebration for
those who have survived cancer and to remember those who have not. The
Relay for Life concept involves teams competing against each other to
raise money. While the Relay is going on, a community celebration is
created by team members camping out, enjoying entertainment, food,
games, and camaraderie. Join the fun by becoming a participant, a team

American Red Cross
The American Red Cross is an organization that provides emergency
assistance, disaster relief and education. Longwood volunteers can work
with the American Red Cross to organize blood drives and other events.

Art Kids at the Longwood Center for Visual Arts
The Art Kids Program is a joint endeavor of the Longwood Center for the
Visual Arts and Prince Edward County Elementary School (PECES). Program
participants are third and fourth grade students who are identified
PECES as having difficulty with anger management. Volunteers can assist
with various aspects of this and other LCVA programs. Visit

Beath Animal Shelter
Beath Animal Shelter is a NO KILL shelter for dogs and cats.
Volunteers can assist staff with caring for the animals and helping

Bear Creek Lake State Park
Bear Creek Lake
State Park is committed to conserving, protecting, enhancing, and
advocating the wise use of VA's natural, historic, recreational, scenic,
and cultural resources. Volunteers can assist with maintaining grounds

Big Siblings
Big Siblings (part of Big Brother Big Sister) is a mentoring
organization that helps children by one-on-one mentoring. Students
interested in becoming a Big Sibling must submit an application in the
spring in order to begin mentoring when students return in the fall.
Big Siblings volunteers must commit to spending at least one hour a week
with their little sibling. For more information please visit

Boy Scouts of America
Boy
Scouts of America provides an educational program for boys and young
adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of
participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness. Volunteers

Britthaven of Keysville
Britthaven of Keysville is a nursing facility for the aging. Britthaven
is committed to providing quality care and services assuring human
dignity and quality of life for the residents, their families, and their

nursing staff with activities for the residents.

Brookview Lodge

Buckingham Community Mentoring Program
Buckingham Community Mentoring Program focuses on middle school
students, matching middle school students with community volunteers in
order to provide guidance, tutoring, and friendship.

Camp Easter Seals of Virginia
Camp Easter Seals is a residential camping program serving children and
adults with disabilities. We are looking for energetic, caring and
hardworking people to be counselors and program leaders (aquatics,
horseback riding, arts and crafts, sports, nature, music/dance/drama).

Camp Virginia Jaycee
The mission of Camp Virginia Jaycee, Inc is to provide outdoor education
and recreation experience for persons with special needs. Camp Virginia
Jaycee is a facility where children and adults with special needs can
participate in games, partake in new experiences, learn to appreciate

The Central Virginia Regional Library, located just a few blocks from
campus offers a variety of reading programs for young children.

Clean Virginia Waterways
Clean Virginia Waterways is an award-winning, statewide, nonprofit
organization dedicated to citizen stewardship of Virginia's water
resources. Affiliated with Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia,
Clean Virginia Waterways offers water-related education for teachers,
students, and landowners as well as provides workshops and seminars

Crossroads Community Services
Crossroads Community Services provides Farmville and the surrounding
area with prevention programs while collaborating with other local
organizations and agencies. Volunteers can get involved in a variety of
programs, including the Piedmont Healthy Families Program, summer
enrichment camps, after school enrichment programs, drug-free after prom
parties, peer mediation/conflict resolution training, and substance
abuse prevention education.

FACES Food Pantry
F.A.C.E.S., an organization ran strictly by volunteers, provides weekly
food distribution from its pantry to eligible members in the
Farmville-Prince Edward area. It distributes over 500 bags of food 52
weeks a year to its client base. Volunteers can assist with unloading
and sorting shipments of food, and packaging and handing out food.

Farmville Area Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian
housing ministry. HFHI seeks to eliminate poverty housing and
homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of
conscience and action. Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races
and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in
need.

Farmville Dialysis Center (BMA of Farmville)
At the Farmville Dialysis Center, local patients go on a regular basis
to receive treatment. Most treatments can take several hours, therefore
volunteers are desperately needed to go and visit with patients while

Friends of the Appomattox River
Friends of the Appomattox River are a group of citizens in the
Farmville, Virginia area who have come together to promote river
conservation and responsible recreation on our local waterway. Members
come from a variety of professions and backgrounds, but are united by
their interest in the welfare of the river and its denizens. Check out

Girl Scouts
Girl Scout Commonwealth Council of Virginia, Inc, (GSCC) serves more
than 18,405 girls and 5,286 adults in 30 counties within the cities of
Emporia, Colonial Heights, Hopewell, Petersburg, Richmond, and
Fredericksburg. GSCC is one of eight councils which serve the state of
Virginia. Girl Scout experience
five different age levels in Girl Scouting which allow girls to
progress in skills and activities together. Placement options give girls
the chance to experience Girl Scouting in a variety of ways – including
but not limited to, church, school, housing communities, and
individually.

Gleaning for the World, Inc.
Gleaning for the World seeks to provide life saving support to
communities in critical need throughout the world by applying a powerful
concept that we call "Gleaning". We provide surplus medical and
essential supplies to humanitarian projects worldwide. GFTW provides

Goodwill Industries
The gift of your time volunteering to help Goodwill is a treasure we
count on every day. Last year, Goodwill was graced by over 10,000
volunteers, which made a tremendous impact on our ability to achieve our
mission. Hundreds of volunteers from all walks of life choose to donate
their valuable time and talent to Goodwill. Because the Goodwill Stores
are open seven days a week (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. and
Sunday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.), there is a time slot for every one.

Healing Paws & Claws
Healing Paws & Claws strives to educate promote human health using the
human-animal relationship and the human-natural world relationship.
Volunteers can become Pet Partners – which are human-animal teams who
are internationally certified by the Delta Society®, of whom Healing
Paws & Claws is an affiliate, to do pet therapy in institutions such as
nursing homes and hospitals where they are invited. Any person 10 years
and older may be registered as can families with only one pet. Many

Heritage Weekday Education Center
The Mission of the Heritage Weekday Education Center (HWEC), a
non-profit weekday ministry, is to assist Heritage Baptist Church in
accomplishing its goal of providing our community with the highest
quality care including educational, moral, and spiritual development, as
well as family ministry for each child enrolled. We will strive to
provide opportunities for the children to grow spiritually, mentally,
physically, emotionally, and socially through a developmentally
appropriate curriculum.

HOPE is a center for free pregnancy counseling and
assistance. They offer free and confidential services including
pregnancy tests, childbirth education and parenting programs, medical

Hospice of Virginia
At the heart of Hospice are its caring volunteers. People like you who
have been touched in some way by the kindness of Hospice and wish to
give back. People who simply want to give of themselves. While our
volunteers are often family or friends of a Hospice patient, they are
always people who want to help others in a time of need. Hospice
volunteers are special people who share a common bond of compassion, a
commitment to excellent care and a profound respect for the choices and
comfort of patients and families struggling with end-of-life issues and
emotions. Our volunteers are highly trained and well prepared to provide

Longwood Center for Communication, Literacy and Learning (LCCLL) works
to provide targeted tutoring and other professional services to
children, adults and families in Southside Virginia. The LCCLL is
always looking for students to volunteer as tutors at the center.
The LCCLL is also an excellent way for volunteers interested in

Piedmont Court Services’ mission is to enable this jurisdiction,
consisting of eight (8) counties of Amelia, Buckingham, Charlotte,
Cumberland, Lunenburg, Nottoway, Powhatan and Prince Edward, to have
greater flexibility and involvement in responding to the problem of
crime in its communities; to provide more effective protection of
society; to promote efficiency and economy in the delivery of
correctional services; to provide an increased amount of opportunities
and incentives for offenders to make restitution to victims of crimes
through financial reimbursement or community service; to operate and
utilize programs and services specifically designed to meet the
rehabilitative needs of selected offenders; and to provide appropriate

mission of Southside SPCA is to provide humane care and shelter for

Tri-County Life Learners
Tri-County Life Learners (TCLL) is a non-profit literacy organization
established to provide life-long learning opportunities for residents of
Buckingham, Cumberland, and Prince Edward Counties. Our main emphasis is
on literacy for adults and English as a second language. Our tri-county
region has an illiteracy rate of more than 30% of the population age
sixteen and over. In response to this desperate need for literacy
education, a volunteer Board of Directors was formed from each county to
oversee the organization.
