Policy
1001: Advertising and Posting of Flyers President's Office |
I. PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to ensure all advertising on campus is
consistent with the mission of the University and higher education and to prevent
damage or destruction to any property belonging to the University through the indiscriminate posting of
flyers, brochures, banners, announcements, or other printed materials on
unauthorized surfaces.
II. POLICY
A. Materials may be posted only on designated bulletin boards, and are allowed on academic/administrative departmental doors under the following provisions:
1. approval must be obtained from the department chair;
2. materials are posted in such a manner as not to damage or in any way deface the door;
3. if office is used by more than on person, all persons within office agree for item to be posted on the door.
B. Prohibitions: No posting is allowed on other areas, such as walls, windows, and doors (other than specified in II, A of this policy). Such positing will be confiscated.
C. Approval: The Director of the Student Union approves items to be posted in the Lankford Building.D. Removal: All posted material must be removed by the organization or person doing the posting within twenty-four (24) hours of the event.
E. Volume Limitations: Only one piece of literature per event may be posted on any permissible posting area.
F. Posters: Posters should be neat, accurate, in good taste, and contain full information. Materials must be clearly identified as to sponsor, representative, or group responsible.
G. Content Limitations: Literature must not violate Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control regulations. Sale of alcoholic beverages cannot be advertised. Pictures depicting the use of alcoholic beverages or drug encouragement or explicit pictures of bottles, cans, or glasses containing alcoholic beverages are allowed only when such material directly supports alcohol/drug education programs. Advertising literature should emphasize the event at which the alcohol may be present and not the specific presence of alcoholic beverages.
H. Complaints: Concerns about the content of posted materials should be directed to the sponsor. Questions about the advertising policy and concerns about potential violations may be directed to the Dean of Students Office or the Office of Student Services.
I. Sanctions: Advertising that does not comply with all of these guidelines could result in the cancellation of the immediate event and loss of future privileges to sponsor events.
