CAMPUS RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
I. PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to establish student campus residency
requirements.
II. POLICY
Longwood is a residential institution and features residence hall education focusing on student learning and personal development as part of its distinct academic mission. Therefore, students are required to live on campus, unless an exception is approved by the Office of Residential and Commuter Life (RCL). Residence Hall Contracts are for the entire academic year (August through May).
III. PROCEDURE
A. Academic Year Sign-up Process: Continuing students must participate in the next academic year sign-up process and follow all guidelines established by RCL. Prior to this assignment process students are required to pay an annual tuition deposit and be registered for at least twelve (12) credits in a degree-seeking program.
B. Exception Applications: Applications for an exception to the residency requirement for continuing students must be submitted to RCL. Leases or other living arrangements should not be confirmed until exceptions are verified in writing from RCL. Letters of exception will be distributed via campus mailboxes.
C. Exceptions:
1. Non-traditional Age: reaching age twenty-three (23) prior to the beginning of the fall semester.
2. Married: verified with marriage license.
3. Living at home: a notarized letter from parent(s) or legal guardian(s) is required.
4. Part-time Student: enrolling in less than twelve (12) credit hours (both fall and spring semester).
5. Senior Privilege: at least eighty-nine (89) credit hours by the end of spring semester.
6. Junior Exception: Students with at least fifty-six (56) hours earned prior to the end of the spring semester may apply for the Junior Exception. The application deadline will be advertised on-campus. Based on available residence hall space, RCL reserves the right to limit the number of Juniors approved for this exception. Approval or denial decisions will be sent to campus mailboxes.Students who are offered exceptions will be expected to participate in an "Off-campus Briefing Meeting" in April and to provide the University with an accurate off-campus address.
