Policy 3302
HEALTH EMERGENCIES ON CAMPUS

I.    PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to set forth procedures for handling emergency health situations on campus.

II.    POLICY

When a health emergency occurs at Longwood University, notify the Rescue Squad and Public Safety Office simultaneously. Emergencies occurring in classrooms, offices, residential halls, Longwood facilities, or grounds should be referred to the Emergency Room at Southside Community Hospital at all times. Southside Community Hospital is the only licensed emergency facility in the area. Any student, staff member, or visitor who becomes unconscious or has a bleeding emergency (e.g.; laceration and/or injury) should be transported by trained rescue personnel. The Public Safety Office can offer immediate assistance with crowd control and directions for emergency personnel. The Student Health Service is an outpatient health service and is not a licensed emergency facility.
