Signature Events for Alumni, Students & Friends of Longwood

The Office of Alumni and Career Services is dedicated to providing exciting events for alumni, students, friends and families to celebrate and reminisce with classmates whether at on-campus or regional events. Throughout the year we will continually update this page when more information becomes available about each event.

Ring Ceremony

Putting your college class ring on your finger for the first time is an important and symbolic moment, and Longwood's Ring Ceremony marks the occasion with the emotional richness it deserves.

The day before the ceremony, staff from the Alumni Office places all rings in a treasure chest designed and decorated by members of Chi and Princeps. The chest remains in the Rotunda overnight under the watchful eye of Joanie. During the ceremony the next day, students are presented with their rings as they hear from Longwood's president and a representative of the Alumni Board. Following the ceremony, students are invited to the Rotunda for photos with Joanie and the chest.

"The ceremony is a time for juniors and seniors, as well as their families, to celebrate receiving their Longwood class rings, which are a lasting symbol of Longwood and a reminder of exciting and meaningful years spent on campus." -Nicole Perkins '05, director of alumni engagement

Welcome to the City

Adjusting to life after graduation in a new city can be an intimidating experience. Getting settled in a new job in addition to locating the best places to exercise, shop, or get a great meal can be a challenge.

That's where Welcome to the City events come in!

Held each August in Virginia's three largest metro areas (Richmond, Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads), Welcome to the City events are happy hour socials designed to bring together Longwood's newest graduates with alumni already established in the area. The events not only help new graduates meet members of their local alumni networks, but it is also a great way to get insider information on their new city.

Senior Toast

Senior Toast

The Senior Toast has joined the ranks of beloved Longwood occasions. With each speaker hand-selected by the senior class, seniors and alumni experience a brief ceremony of reflection, laughs and inspiration, concluding with citizen leadership graduation cords being bestowed to the graduates. Afterward, everyone gathers to celebrate in style as seniors close one chapter and begin a new.

Alumni Awards Ceremony

The Alumni Awards Ceremony recognizes alumni for their outstanding achievement and service to others. The award program is a reflection on the history of Longwood University, as well as a singular tribute to the accomplishments of the honorees.

If you would like to nominate one or more alumni, please review award criteria and the selection process and fill out the nomination form. Written nominations and recommendations are accepted year-round. In order for a nominee to be considered on the current year’s slate, nominations must be received by October 15.
