If you Love Your Longwood, save the date of Feb. 21, 2017.

The second Love Your Longwood day is expected to be even better than the inaugural 24-hour philanthropy campaign held last March, when 533 donors gave more than $65,000. Alumni, students, faculty/staff and friends took to social media to share their photos and memories of why they love Longwood, using the hashtag #LoveYourLongwood. For 24 percent of last year’s giving day donors, this was their first gift to Longwood.

“It’s important for alumni to believe in the institution and give back,” said Kristina Easter, director of development for annual programs, noting that the percentage of alumni who give to their alma maters is one metric used in national rankings of colleges and universities.

“Alumni participation is a difficult number to move, as the denominator increases each year with your graduating class. It’s important for all alumni to know that gifts of all sizes have the power to make a significant impact. Whether they’re just beginning their career, are still paying off student loans or have more established careers, even a $5 gift, when combined with others, adds up quickly.”

Love Your Longwood day also is the kickoff to the faculty/staff campaign, called the Campus Community Campaign, so a gift that day counts for both. The first Love Your Longwood day exceeded the donor goal of 500 and secured a generous $10,000 match from the Longwood Alumni Association.

“Posting messages on Love Your Longwood day generates a widespread and immeasurable amount of pride and camaraderie for Longwood,” said Easter.
