Candice Ransom, a popular author of children’s and young adult literature, will speak Thursday, March 21, at 4 p.m. in the atrium of Longwood University’s Greenwood Library.

The talk, sponsored by the Friends of the Janet D. Greenwood Library, will be preceded by a reception, also in the atrium, that begins at 3:30 p.m. Though the event is free and open to the public, anyone planning to attend is urged to contact Keary Mariannino at (434) 395-2431 or at

Ransom, who lives in Fredericksburg, is the author of more than 100 books, including a chapter book series,Time Spies, and 18 titles in The Boxcar Children series. More than 45 of her books have been translated into 12 languages. Ransom’s books have been named among the New York Times 10 Best Illustrated Books and one of the New York Public Library’s Best 100 Books.

Ransom teaches in the M.A./M.F.A. children’s literature program at Hollins University, from which she earned an M.A. in 2007. She has an M.F.A. in writing for children and young adults from Vermont College.
