Student Network Services

Residence Hall/Longwood Managed Apartments

Hard wired and wireless network services in the residence halls and Longwood managed apartments are provided by Shentel. New users will need to register for network access. Returning students will use the same account information that was used last year.

Wireless is a shared resource that can sometimes have latency during peak usage times.  It is recommended that students utilize the hard-wired ports provided in their residence hall room or Longwood managed apartment (a port is available for each student in the room/apartment) in addition to wireless These network ports provide dedicated network bandwidth that is not shared. An RJ45 to RJ45 network cable is needed to connect to the port. The Help Desk, located on the ground floor of French Hall, has a limited number of cables available for students at no cost (first come, first served.) These cables can be purchased at Walmart or anywhere that sells technology supplies.

LancerNet Network Services

Longwood LancerNet wireless is also available in some locations on campus (Library, Academic Buildings, Brock Commons, etc.). The Longwood wireless network is named LancerNet and is accessed using the LancerNet ID and password.
