The new health and fitness center has been certified GOLD by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

The LEED certification is based on 6 categories:

  • Sustainable sites (hardscapes, low water plants)
  • Water efficiency (Waterless urinals, low water showerheads)
  • Energy and atmosphere (High efficiency mechanical equipment)
  • Materials and resources (Local manufacturers, recycling construction waste)
  • Indoor environmental quality (Recycled building materials)
  • Innovation and design process (skylights, solar panels)

LEED sets the standard for green buildings by utilizing state-of-the-art sustainable technology. The University saves $60,000 a year in energy expenses due to the fitness center's green design.
