By voluntarily participating in Virginia Quality, childcare centers and early learning programs focus on the following areas that have been proven to matter to a child’s school success:

Basic Health and Safety

Virginia Quality programs comply with the requirements of state and local regulatory agencies. 

Education and Qualifications for teachers and staff

Quality centers encourage and support both formal education for staff as well as continuing education such as workshops and conferences.

Teacher-child interactions as well as a teacher to staff ratios 

Quality centers know that children benefit from high-quality interactions. This includes positive attitudes toward children, using constructive and appropriate behavior management techniques, encouraging children to be creative and encouraging children to learn and ask questions.

Learning environment

Quality centers have a variety of materials and activities for children to be involved in each day.

Curriculum and Assessment 

Quality centers strive to incorporate curriculum, child assessment and intentional teaching at the center every day. A quality center should be intentionally promoting a child’s learning and development.
