Activate your LancerNet ID and set up your official Longwood email account
Your LancerNet ID serves as your primary username, granting you access to various campus services resource. It's essential for logging into platforms such as myLongwood, Canvas, and the LancerNet wireless network.
Your Longwood email account (also known as Live Mail) is where you'll receive all university communications, including class updates, billing information, and important announcements. Be sure to check it often!
Activate your LancerNet ID and set up your Live Mail account
Submit a photo for your Lancer ID card
Your Lancer Card (also referred to as your Longwood ID card) is required to enter buildings, access your meal plan, and more.
Submit your photo by following the steps on the Lancer Card page. Be sure to review the photo requirements and submit it before Orientation so you can pick up your card during your session.
Complete the Start Here Course
Registering for your first semester of courses at Longwood is an exciting time. The Start Here Canvas course will guide you through course selection and registration.
- Start Here will be available in March 2026.
- You’ll receive an invitation at your Longwood email address.
Informational webinars will also be available to support you through the process.
Complete Course Registration
Fall 2026 registration opens April 20. Students must complete the Start Here course before registering.
Non-athlete international students: Please email starthere@longwood.edu and connect with an academic advisor. You will also work with Charles Lord, the International Student Success Specialist, on your course registration.
International student-athletes: Please work with Farrah Young, the Associate Athletics Director for Academics and Student Services, and Charles Lord, the International Student Success Specialist, on your course registration.
Exchange students: Please connect with Emily Kane, the Director of Study Abroad and Erik Varela, the Assistant Director of Study Abroad and International Student Support, to complete your course registration
Get Ready for New International Student Orientation
A mandatory in-person orientation for international students will be held on August 17 and 18.
During orientation, you will learn important information about studying and living in the U.S. as an international student, including immigration requirements, campus resources, academic expectations, and adjusting to life at Longwood. You will also connect with faculty, staff, and fellow students as you prepare for your transition to campus.
Reserve Airport Pickup
New international students are encouraged to use the free airport pickup service from Richmond International Airport (RIC) to Longwood University on August 15 and 16. If you would like to use this service, please confirm your arrival plans in advance with Cheng at pengc2@longwood.edu.
Complete the Your Journey Starts Here Course
The Your Journey Starts Here Canvas course will help you get to know Longwood University and the Farmville community before you arrive. Be sure to take time to review each module carefully.
- The course will open in June
- An invitation will be sent to your Longwood email address.
Complete your Housing Application
Housing application emails will begin going out to students on April 6.
Once you receive the email, be sure to complete the housing application survey. This will allow you to:
- Rank your residence hall preferences
- Select your meal plan
- Provide details for roommate matching
After all housing applications have been submitted, the Residential & Commuter Life office will begin assigning students to housing. Students will receive their housing assignment, roommate/suitemate information, and move-in instructions via their Longwood email by June 30.
Complete your Immunization Form
An Immunization Record (completed and signed by your doctor) is required for all full-time students. The Immunization Requirements and forms can be found on the University Health Center page along with information about how to submit.
Purchase Health Insurance
All F-1 and J-1 students are required to have valid health insurance while enrolled at Longwood University. Health care in the United States can be expensive, and insurance helps cover medical costs if you become sick or injured. You must maintain valid health insurance for the entire time you are enrolled at Longwood. An email with information on how and where to purchase insurance will be sent in early June.
Send Your Final High School Transcript
Your final high school transcript must be submitted by orientation.
Transcripts must be:
- Official
- Sent directly to Cheng at pengc2@longwood.edu
You may also bring a sealed, official copy with you to Orientation.
Note: Transfer students who have earned 24 or more college credits do not need to submit a final high school transcript.
