Are you currently teaching under a provisional license and working toward your initial Virginia teaching license?
We’re here to help you meet your goals.
Longwood University offers the courses and support you need to fulfill all Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) requirements for full licensure. Our initiative provides:
- A personalized licensure completion plan that outlines which courses you need and when to take them.
- One-on-one advising and coaching with our dedicated staff, who guide you through every step of the process.
- Flexible coursework designed for working teachers.

We also collaborate with school divisions to support provisionally licensed teachers on their path to full licensure.
Our team works directly with your personnel office to:
- Share progress reports and updates.
- Ensure that each teacher stays on track to meet VDOE licensure requirements.
- Help your teachers transition smoothly to full licensure and remain in the classroom.
Costs
The Provisional Licensure Completion Initiative (PLCI) is being offered at our professional studies rate of $295 per credit hour (in-state), and $365 per credit hour (out-of-state), plus an application fee. Rates effective fall 2025.
Convenient payment options are available, including the Graduate Student Monthly Payment Plan available in fall and spring.
Admission Requirements
- Participants must hold a current teaching position and a current provisional license
- If you hold a bachelor’s degree, we’ll request your most recent degree transcript as part of the online application
- Choose “Graduate non-degree” when applying
