Rachel Iman, our 2022-2023 SNVC Undergraduate Scholarship recipient, demonstrates leadership in action in all areas of her life.  Her school and community involvement began during her high school years and continues to grow and flourish at Longwood.  Her work ethic began with a summer job four years ago which has allowed her leadership skills to be noticed and valued to attain the assistant manager/shift manager position.  Yet, her passion is clearly working with and teaching children.  In addition to the responsibilities of a job, Rachel worked as a summer camp teacher at Covenant Childcare, and as a substitute teacher for Chesapeake Public Schools.  Her dedication and teaching skills have already earned her a teaching contract when she graduates from Longwood.  Rachel writes, “Being a teacher means being a leader for the children who will lead in our community one day.  It is the ultimate honor.”

Her involvement at Longwood University is lengthy.  She is a member of the Cormier Honors College, Sigma Kappa, Delta Nu Chapter, Peer Mentors, Greeks for Change, Kappa Delta Pi, Longwood Club Softball, and Order of Omega, holding leadership positions in five of the seven organizations.    Being a first-generation college student, she has shared her experiences helping her fellow students as a peer mentor for three semesters with the First-Generation Group.

One of her references noted that she was “definitely impressed” with Rachel’s dedication to Order of Omega.  Rachel’s ability to step in and coordinate an event that had been postponed since spring of 2019 was something to be admired.  The task of planning and managing daily events, recruiting volunteers, and supervising the execution of the week’s events was done by Rachel with very little guidance.

Confident, yet humble and a team player, we believe these valuable leadership skills will secure future success!  Congratulations Rachel!
