The Longwood University Alumni Association was organized by seven alumnae in 1887 under the name Association of Alumnae of State Female Normal School.

The name of the association has changed as the name of the institution changed. The purpose of the Association is to promote the interest of Longwood University and to maintain among its graduates and former students a spirit of ENGAGING, SUPPORTING and SERVING.

As an Alumni Board Director, I have been able to reconnect with my fellow classmates, meet new faces, and share my love for Longwood through regional and campus events.

Membership

Membership

Longwood’s Alumni Association is a non-dues-based association and all graduates are automatically members.

Non-degree alumni who earn 24 or more credit hours from Longwood can request to be members of the Alumni Association. The Association is funded by a partnership with Meyers & Associates, an insurance company; Liberty Mutual, a mutual fund program; and Balfour, the official Longwood University ring distributor.

Regional Facebook Groups

Regional Facebook Groups

Championed and managed by Alumni Association Board members, these groups allow alumni to come together, connect and network throughout the state.

These groups get together at local hot spots, host fundraisers for local charities and give tips to Lancers new to the area. Currently, there are six active groups throughout the state: 757, RVA, NOVA, Martinsville-Henry County (MHC), Hometown and Blue Ridge Lancers Alumni Networks.

Governance

Governance (A)

The Association is governed by an Alumni Board composed of three officers and between fifteen and twenty-one members-at-large.

Official business meetings are held in the fall and in the spring of each year and a planning meeting is held in the summer. Board members assist throughout the year with program development and events sponsored by the Association.

The Alumni Board allows me to engage with other alums that love Longwood, help current students, and give back to the school that has provided much of the foundation for my personal and professional life.

Being a Lancer doesn’t end at graduation. It’s a lifelong commitment to excellence, mentorship, and supporting the next generation of citizen leaders. Being a part of the board does just that.
