Longwood University's Counselor Education Program strives to foster a collaborative environment where students take an active role in their development as competent and effective practitioners who demonstrate self-awareness, knowledge, and skills grounded in a sensitivity and responsiveness to multiculturalism and social justice.  The program promotes the acquisition of those competencies that enable our students to function in professional roles in settings that assist individuals, families, schools and communities while emphasizing the importance of advocacy and leadership in the profession of counseling. The faculty strives to develop counselors who can formulate, implement, and evaluate preventative and therapeutic approaches to assist a broad cultural cross-section of individuals and groups to improve their adjustment and daily functioning across the lifespan.
