General SACSCOC Information
Longwood University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate and masters degrees. Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097 or call 404-679-4500 for questions about the accreditation of Longwood University.
To maintain accreditation, an institution must demonstrate compliance with the Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement every ten years by completing a comprehensive Compliance Certification audit of all the standards and submitting a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), both of which are reviewed by off-site and on-site committees composed of faculty and staff of similar institutions. The Fifth-Year Interim Report is a new requirement that covers fourteen of the standards and reports on the status of the QEP. Final approval for both processes is conferred by the Commission on Colleges.
Longwood University was first accredited by SACSCOC in 1927 and last reaffirmed in 2003. Longwood's next ten-year reaffirmation visit will occur in the spring of 2014. Longwood submitted its first Fifth-Year Interim Report in March, 2010; the report is available on this website.
