ADHD & Specific Learning Disorder Testing

Overview

CAPS offers formal psychological testing for Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Specific Learning Disorders. Testing begins with a consultation to ensure the process is a good fit. After the consultation, a full battery of testing is completed by a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in two or more sessions lasting 2-4 hours per meeting. Testing is comprehensive and includes a clinical interview, as well as neuropsychological, performance, achievement, personality, and intelligence measures. 

To be best prepared for testing, get plenty of sleep, eat a good meal, bring water and/or snacks, wear glasses, and take medications as prescribed. 

After testing is complete, the psychologist will spend time analyzing the evidence and writing a report. The psychologist will then provide a full report detailing the findings. In the feedback session, the psychologist will walk through the results and answer questions. It is important to know that testing does not guarantee a diagnosis.

 Expanded Eligibility:  The expanded testing program was partially funded by a Longwood University Parent’s Council Grant

• Currently enrolled Longwood University students
• Adult children (age 18+) of Longwood University Faculty/Staff
• Currently enrolled Hampden-Sydney College students

Psychological evaluation for ADHD/SLD is becoming difficult to access when located in a resource-desert. Furthermore, those seeking services are reporting wait times of up to one-year. In an effort to address the educational needs of our community, Longwood University CAPS has expanded the reach of the ADHD/SLD testing program to include testing for adult children of current Longwood faculty/staff, as well as Hampden-Sydney students.

Cost

Testing Consultation: Free

ADHD/SLD Testing & Report for Longwood Students: $750

ADHD/SLD Testing & Report for Non-Longwood Students: $900

While testing involves a sizeable financial commitment, the psychologists in CAPS are able to offer testing and the report at a fraction of the cost compared to community providers.
