Dr. Tamara Brown ’89 was named provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at The University of Texas at Arlington, effective Aug. 1, 2022. Brown came to UTA from the University of North Texas, where she had served as executive dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences since 2019. In that position, she increased both student retention and diversity of the faculty. Prior to UNT, Brown was a dean and professor at Prairie View A&M University; executive director of the Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center; and a professor at the University of Kentucky. After earning her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Longwood, she went on to earn master’s and Ph.D. degrees in clinical psychology at the University of Illinois.
