Longwood University Theatre is proud to announce our 2023 High School Theatre Teacher of the Year award.
On March 20, 2023, Dr. Scarrow and Prof. Sweet traveled to Louisa County HS to present the Longwood University High School Teacher of the Year Award to Jelita Perry Hopkins. Bailey Hobbs, nominating student, met them there to assist with the presentation. The school principal and other personnel met the group and surprised Ms. Hopkin in her class. She was presented with a large check, giving her free admission to all of LU's next season shows; a framed certificate, balloons, and flowers. She will also be honored at the Red Carpet reception on April 15, before the "Songs of the New World" production. Ms. Hopkins seemed grateful for the recognition and many of her current students offered kind words about her and her effect on them.
