Welcome to the Longwood Archaeology Field School. Founded in 1980 by Dr. James W. Jordan, the archaeology 2005 Wade Site Crewprogram at Longwood is engaged in long-term research projects in Virginia as well as in the Caribbean. In addition to the summer field projects, our program includes an array of courses offered throughout the academic year that provide students with the opportunity to expand their training in a variety of ways. In addition to our course offerings, students may choose to participate in a variety of activities such as periodic weekend excavations conducted by faculty on sites around the greater Farmville area. Students can also choose to join in on the very popular PrimTech weekend seminar conducted once each semester by the the Primitive Technology Club. We are also extremely proud to have recently obtained the Delta Chapter of the Lambda Alpha Honor Society for Anthropology and we look forward to welcoming honor students into this organization each year.

Currently, the Field School is engaged in two long-term research projects.  The first project is an excavation of a Late-Woodland Indian hamlet along the banks of the Staunton River in Charlotte County, Virginia. For more information on the projects and pictures, click here.
