The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Early Childhood Education is a degree completion program for students who want to work with special education and general education children from birth to age eight. Students will develop responsive teaching practices through coursework and opportunities for observation and application in a variety of early childhood settings.

What You'll Study

Major

Students need to complete the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Early Childhood Development and then the curriculum at Longwood will build on this initial foundation. The Early Childhood Education degree include two concentrations:

Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) and Early/Primary (PreK-3) Licensure Concentration

This concentration prepares students to serve as early childhood teachers in both public and private settings working with general education students in PreK to 3rd grade classrooms and special education students birth to age five.

Early Childhood Education Non-Licensure Concentration

This concentration prepares students to work with young children in various settings as well as serve in leadership capacities, especially in the private sector.

Admissions Requirements

Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Early Childhood Development

  • Complete the Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Development (or within two courses of completion)
  • Maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA on the community college transcript
  • Earn a C or better in all courses transferring from the community college
