Apply to the Cormier Honors College (Internal Applicants)

The Cormier Honors College (CHC) invites motivated Longwood students to apply for admission as internal applicants. To be considered, students must submit all required application materials by the published deadline.

To be considered, students must submit all required application materials by the published deadline and have a minimum of a 3.25 GPA.

Application Requirements

  1. Current Résumé
    Submit a current résumé that highlights your academic experiences, involvement, leadership, service, and employment.

    Applicants may begin with the CHC Résumé Template (doc) and modify it as needed to reflect individual backgrounds and experiences.

  2.  Academic Plan
    Complete the 4-Year Academic Plan (doc) outlining the courses you intend to take through graduation

    The plan may follow any anticipated timeline to graduation (for example, a 3-year plan) and be a minimum of 120 credit hours.

    Plans must include:

    Civitae coursework
    Major and/or minor requirements
    All eight required Honors courses
    A study away experience
    Any electives required for degree completion

  3. Personal Statements
    Applicants must submit two personal statements, each a minimum of 300 words.

    Personal Statement 1: Fast Forward
    Reflect on how participation in the Cormier Honors College will shape your academic experience and future goals. The Honors College is a community of engaged students who value curiosity, challenge, and meaningful impact.

    In your response, address the following:
    Why are you applying to the Cormier Honors College?
    How do you anticipate Honors coursework and experiences will influence your time at Longwood and beyond?

    Personal Statement 2: Select One Prompt
    Choose one of the following prompts:

    Curiosity
    Describe an experience, interest, or idea outside the classroom that sparked your curiosity. How did you pursue learning more?

    Identity
    What would your personal theme song be, and how does it reflect who you are?

    Interests
    Imagine you are competing on Jeopardy! College Week. What six categories appear on your dream board, and what do they reveal about your interests?

  4.  Reflection Requirement (If Applicable)
    Students who will be juniors in the term of application should contact honors@longwood.edu to determine whether additional materials are required.

    Students who will be freshmen or sophomores do not need to submit a reflection.

Cormier Honors College Requirements

Students admitted to the Cormier Honors College must meet and maintain the following requirements:

  • Complete eight Honors courses prior to graduation
    • At least three courses must be at the 300 level or higher
    • Honors CTZN 410 is required and counts toward both the eight-course requirement and the 300-level requirement
    • Students must enroll in at least one Honors course every other semester to demonstrate satisfactory progress
  • Maintain a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA
  • Maintain a minimum 3.25 GPA in Honors coursework
  • Complete a Longwood-approved, credit-bearing study abroad or Brock Experience
  • Complete an annual summer reflective assignment on the Honors Canvas page
