Holidays & Leave

University holidays combined with your accrued leave give you plenty of time to spend with family or to travel. Or you can schedule a staycation right in the Farmville area, exploring the abundant entertainment, dining, shopping and recreational offerings. The calendar below shows our paid holidays. In addition, sick leave and annual/personal leave accrue at generous rates. You can find more information in the above benefit summaries.

Education Benefits

Want to work toward another degree or expand your skill set? For eligible employees, fees are waived for one 4-credit course or one noncredit course per semester.* In addition, for eligible employees’ spouses and unmarried children under age 25, the comprehensive fee is waived for any full- or part-time credit courses taken at Longwood.

* Eligible employees must be continuously employed by Longwood University for a minimum of one year prior to being eligible to receive this benefit. Enrollment in credit courses is contingent upon having vacant seats in the class subsequent to regular student registration. Enrollment in noncredit courses is contingent upon having sufficient paying students to cover costs.

Did we mention that all employees receive a 20% discount at the Longwood’s Barnes & Noble bookstore and full borrowing privileges at Longwood’s Greenwood Library? (tip: check out the DVD/Blu-Ray station)

Wellness Benefits

Your overall wellness is a priority at Longwood—just ask the faculty and staff on our Wellness Committee. Need a mid-day boost? Get in a lunchtime workout at Longwood’s state-of-the-art fitness center, open to employees and their families at a reduced membership rate.

Not feeling well? Make an appointment at the University Health Center across the street.

Life in a Quintessential College Town

America’s oldest two-college town, Farmville is a charming, close-knit community in the heart of Virginia. Longwood’s campus is surrounded by locally owned shops and restaurants, and Hampden-Sydney College— another historic Virginia institution—is just down the road. Farmville also is conveniently located about one hour from the cities of Richmond and Lynchburg, and about 90 minutes from Charlottesville. A Rideshare vanpool from the Richmond/Chesterfield area to Longwood offers a stress-free way for employees to commute, if needed, and payment can be made through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
