Student working in a research lab

In order to determine the amount of financial aid a student will receive, we estimate the cost to attend each year.

Estimates are used only for the purpose of awarding financial aid. The amounts used are also averages.

For instance, Longwood offers a variety of housing and meal plan options. The housing and meal portion of the Cost of Attendance your financial aid is based on will be an average of those options. In the case of indirect costs, an amount that is typical for most students is used.

Actual expenses will vary among students based on things like

  • Course load
  • Spending habits
  • Individual living situations
  • Additional course fees (not reflected here)

The Longwood University Board of Visitors approves the direct costs for the upcoming school year in May:

  • Tuition
  • Fees
  • Housing
  • Meal Plan

Direct and Indirect Costs

Cost of Attendance is made up of Direct and Indirect Costs:

Direct Costs are charges that will appear on your bill from Longwood and include Tuition & Fees and Housing and Meals.

Indirect Costs are expenses students have that are not billed by the university and include

  • Books & Supplies
  • Transportation
  • Personal Expenses
  • Loan Fees
