The Heart of Virginia Community Band is composed of residents of Farmville and the surrounding counties who enjoy making music with their woodwind, brass, and percussion band instruments.
Some of the members are fairly accomplished in-service musicians, but most of our members had not played since high school or college when they joined us and wanted to re-visit those experiences.
Our seasons run from mid-August to early May. Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings.
We perform three free-standing concerts each year on the Longwood campus and then at the Heart of Virginia Festival.
We also provide smaller ensembles during the season for various events staged by local civic organizations.
Our playlists range from 19th and 20th Century traditional concert band compositions to Broadway and Hollywood scores to contemporary pop tunes.
