Internships Image

An internship of at least 1 credit (40 working hours) is required for the Psychology major. The internship should ideally be completed junior/senior year and is a tool for helping you to explore an area of psychology that you may want to pursue after college. You can fulfill an internship by working within the department on a research project with a faculty member (consult individual faculty with whom you’d like to work) OR you can work in an organization or business, either on-campus or off-campus.

Neuro Studies

Challenging academics and laboratory work are integral components of any science major. The addition of a substantial internship or guided research experience enables you to become a well-prepared, experienced graduate.

Internship Manual Spring 2017 (pdf)

Here are some things you should know about fulfilling the internship requirement:

  • You are responsible for finding one. Faculty, staff and the Career Center can be helpful with suggestions.
  • 1 credit is required. You may earn up to 3 credit hours for a letter grade. 4 - 15 credits are graded on a pass/fail basis.
  • Before signing up for an internship, you will need to complete the paperwork on pages 7 & 8 of the internship manual. To do this, you will need a faculty supervisor (can be anyone within the department who agrees to supervise) and an on-site supervisor (your “boss” at your internship). During the appropriate registration time, bring this completed and signed paperwork to the department chair in order to be signed up for your internship.
  • Assignments for the internship typically include (talk with your internship faculty supervisor about specifics):
    • An evaluation form (page 6 from the information packet) completed by your on-site supervisor
    • 2-3 page paper connecting internship experiences to specific concepts learned in your Psychology courses
    • A daily log of internship activities
